US Import Duty Calculator for Chinese-Origin Goods

Stack the 2026 layers on your own customs value and see which one dominates. Runs entirely in your browser — nothing you type is transmitted to us.

Data last verified:

Your shipment

Transaction value of the goods. Freight and insurance are normally not part of it.

From the HTSUS entry for your 10-digit code. We do not guess this.

Enter your figures and select the layers that apply, then press Calculate.

This is an estimate, not a ruling

This page summarises published US tariff measures for logistics planning. It is not legal or customs advice, it is not a classification ruling, and it is not a substitute for an entry prepared by a licensed customs broker. Tariff measures change frequently — always confirm the current position against CBP CSMS, the HTSUS and the Federal Register before you rely on a figure for a shipment.

Rates and feet used: Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF) 0.3464% of the value of the goods (Minimum USD 32.71 · Maximum USD 634.62 per entry) · Harbor Maintenance Fee (HMF) 0.125% (No cap) · ISF 10+2 late or incorrect filing penalty USD 5,000 per violation (Per violation). Section 301 layer rates are published rates; your MFN, 232 and AD/CVD inputs are yours.

How to use a US import duty calculator without being misled

A duty calculator is only as good as the classification behind it. Three inputs decide almost all of the output, and none of them are things a calculator can look up for you:

  • The 10-digit HTS code, which sets the MFN rate and decides which Section 301 list applies.
  • Whether an exclusion or exemption covers your line, which can remove an entire layer.
  • Whether AD/CVD applies, where a single case rate can exceed the value of the goods.

Get those three right and the arithmetic is trivial. Get them wrong and a precise-looking number is worse than no number, because you will price a product on it. The layer-by-layer position, with effective dates and HTSUS line numbers, is on the 2026 duty stack.

Why the layers stack instead of replacing each other

Each measure rests on a different statute. MFN is the ordinary tariff schedule. Section 301 is a response to specific trade practices. Section 232 is a national-security measure. AD/CVD responds to a finding of dumping or subsidisation. Because they are separate instruments, they are additive, and the HTSUS Chapter 99 notes resolve which ones apply to a given line.

One substitution did happen in 2026: the 12.5% forced-labor tariff was introduced as a revenue replacement after the IEEPA tariffs were struck down — but it replaced the IEEPA layer, not the Section 301 lists. See the forced-labor tariff page for the exemption position.

From an estimate to a real number

Once you have the shape of the calculation, the next step is a classification review on the actual product, and then a landed cost that includes freight and inland delivery. The landed cost calculator does the second part; we do the first part on request.

US import duty calculator: common questions

How accurate is this duty calculator?
It is arithmetic, not a ruling. It applies the rates you enter and the published rates for the Section 301 layers. It cannot tell you your HTS code, it cannot resolve a classification question, and it does not know whether an exclusion or exemption applies to your line. Treat the output as the shape of the calculation, not as an assessment.
Why do I have to enter the MFN rate myself?
Because MFN rates are set per HTS line and run from 0% to well over 20%. Any calculator that guesses a rate for a product category is inventing a number. Enter the rate from the HTS entry for your ten-digit code, or send us the code and we will check it.
Is the 12.5% forced-labor tariff included by default?
No, and that is deliberate. It has a published exemption list that works at HTS line level, so applying it blindly would overstate your cost for exempt goods and understate nothing for covered goods. Tick it once you have checked 9903.05.86 and 9903.05.90 for your line.
Are MPF and HMF duty?
No. They are government fees collected at entry on formal entries, and they apply even when the duty is zero. MPF is 0.3464% with a minimum of USD 32.71 and a maximum of USD 634.62 per entry; HMF is 0.125% and applies to ocean shipments only, so an air shipment does not carry it.
Does the calculator include freight and insurance?
No. Duty is assessed on customs value, which is normally the transaction value of the goods — freight and insurance are not part of it for most US entries. To put the whole import together, including freight and inland delivery, use the landed cost calculator.
